Conclusion

First of all thank you to Lauren, Maggie, Suzanne and Tracy! Great Lessons, I really enjoyed it.

  • My favorite lessons were tagging, and social bookmarking. I can really see how these tools can help organize our searches, etc.

  • This helped my attitude on lifelong learning about technology. Learn and discover something new every week.

  • Surprisingly I learned that the idea of cataloging my personal books is something I am thinking about doing.

  • I can't think of anything to improve upon the format of this learning program. I would definitely take another class! In fact it may be the only way to justify learning something new. Otherwise we would just get bogged down in the daily routine (there is always work to be done at the library)! I like having to stop and say, I need to go to school.

I look forward to being a lifelong learner of technology. Along with everything else that intrigues me.

Wiki

I like Suzanne Reymer's blog about e-rate. It is very helpful and I can see how a Wiki could be used for the same purpose.
I have always liked Wikipedia. It usually has the best free subject information out there. Of course it is troubling that you can't count on it to be totally reliable.

Tagging with Del.icio.us

I love this new tool! I am always bookmarking sites and suggesting to others to bookmark sites. Not only is it easier to remember your favorite sites I think it cuts down on getting hooked into a phishing site!
Now with Del.icio.us I can better organize my huge collection. Once the collection gets big it is very hard to quickly find what you are looking for. Great tool someone who had lots and lots of bookmarks must have developed.

My YouTube choice

I finally arrived at this book list given to Rudy Giuliani by Ron Paul. I wanted something book related and what better than what our presidential candidates should all be reading!

It took me some time to find an appropriate video clip. I would have to say the number one popular form of YouTubes are comedy. Closely followed by inappropriate for library material. Or both, funny and indecent.

Podcasting

I listened to the presentation on SirsiDynix about podcasting. I learned alot. Especially cleared up my confusion about exactly what a podcast was. I was not successful with my first two tries at listening to a podcast. My first choice timed out on the download. My second choice which was from a library in Lansing turned out to be two text items. I was finally successful with WordNerds, their discussion for the day was on Rhetoric. I found it to be very interesting and would have listened to the whole thing, but we got busy here at the library. Next is to learn how podcasting could help the library and how to create a podcast.

Library Thing

O.K., I was very skeptical about this. Why would I want to do this? Then I went on the site. I think this could be fun. Not so much to catalog my own books which I have not done yet, but to see what other people are reading and why! I can see how this would be helpful for librarians.
It would be absoulutely wonderful for someone with a large personal library!

Mashups

http://www.publicdomainreprints.org/

This is an interesting free way to get books online. It is really amazing what is available out there. Just makes me wonder what else there is to find? ; )

This photo was taken by me with the Library Camera (purchased by the Friends of the Carnegie Library in Big Timber), it is a Canon Powershot A95. Pretty pink sunset!

RSS feeds

I have signed up for RSS feeds before. I think they are a great idea! My first two were The Motley Fool for financial news and The Twisted Librarian for fun library news. I unfortunately don't have alot of time for them, or is it o.k. to read them at work? What do you think?

Adding elements to my blog

I had a picture on my blog and decided I didn't like it. I would like to have had more time to add maybe a picture slideshow to my blog. Perhaps I will have more time next week for lesson 7 1/2 and get to play with my blog. The way it is now is really boring compared to all the others that I have visited.

Lesson 1

For me the hardest habit will be #6 Using technology to your advantage. Sometimes the sheer amount of new technology available can be overwhelming to me. Just when I think I am almost caught up with the new things out there, bam, there are several more to learn. I tend to want to just give up trying to learn it all!
The easiest habit would definitely be #7 Teach/Mentor others. If I can learn it, it can't be that hard. So, I feel confident I can teach someone else.
