Lesson 5 continued

I downloaded the paint.net app. I will need to really spend some time on this to learn how to use it. I did find a great new app in the new issue of Maximum PC. It is called www.getdropbox.com. It is a web based file sharing app. I am excited to us it and see how well it works and will post the results on my blog.

Lesson 5

I use the Google app Picasa at home and at the library. I think it is by far the best picture managing system there is, and it's free!!!! I am going to try the paint.net app. It sounds like something that I would use to enhance the library blog, etc.

I have been using a Google start page for about a year

Lesson 4 del.icio.us

I started using del.icio.us last year. I love it and I am very busy updating my new favorites with tags. It can be time consuming though, one of those things worth the effort AFTER it is done!

Lesson 3 Continued

I have successfully connected twitter to facebook, then just when I think I have things figured out, I see that I posted to the wrong blog. I am treating my mistakes as learning experiences.
Thank you to Tracy for the helpful tips included in lesson number 3.

Lesson 3

I am now on facebook. Next task, trying to connect my Twitter to my facebook.

I'm looking forward to using these new tools for our library. We are currently

using a blog for our "What's new at the library" post from our website www.bigtimberlibrary.org.

Lesson 2

Using your twitter to be helpful to others. Now there's and idea. I will have to work on that one.

Lesson 2

I am twittering, wishing my twitters were half as clever as Tony from Zappos. I am learning my way around the twitter world. Navigation is a time consuming process. I will chip away at it, whenever I get time between librarian duties.

Assignment Two of Lesson One

I set up to instant message with Irene from Butte. She was not able to participate this week so I have been intstant messaging with my niece in Michigan and updating my facebook that I created as part of last years challenge. I have used instant messaging in the past to contact support departments for computer problems etc. It really comes in handy and you don't have to sit waiting on the phone.
I have used the online training in the past. I really like how easy it is to take a live class from your computer! I learned that I prefer the VOIP to conference calling. VOIP has less interference and backround noise.
Since my son ordered a brand new head set with microphone, I think I will try Skype at home.

Assingment One

Our library uses e-mail everyday. Our patrons can e-mail us with requests for books, ILL's, what is the next book on their book club list etc. We also receive request via e-mail from all over the world (o.k. really only Norway) for geneology information.
E-mail is also used for library business, such as ordering, shipping confirmation etc.
Wired-MT keeps us in the loop both here in Montana and all over library land.
Our library has not started to use Instant Messaging or text messaging yet. We are always open to new ideas and would use those tools if needed.

Left over from last years challenge

Here is a left over lesson from last year, my Avatar. Last years was better but lost somewhere so here is the new one. I noticed they do not provide wrinkles so if you see me in person please don't be shocked! Jacque Scott Assistant Librarian in Big Timber.

Time to start the 2.0 Challenge of 2009

I am excited to start the next 2.0 challenge. I think it's great that the state training staff offer this. If not, I would be floundering in the sea of new technology. Because of last years training, we have a blog on our library website. Kate and I both post to it, and hope to get the word out so people know they can find out what is New at the Library by visiting our blog. I look forward to all the new things we will learn.
